Redcliffe City Amateur Anglers Inc. was established in 1972 and now has over 130 members [including juniors]
The club is comprised of 4 grades:- A Grade - B Grade - C Grade and Juniors [ 8 to 17 years]. Three are 2 additional age categories, Veterans (55 to 65 years) and Senior Veterans (over 66 years).
There is a large number of trophies available worth over $6000.00 as well as trip trophies to be won. The full list is available on the Trophy List page
The club fishes a mixture of South Queensland fishing spots i.e. Bribie Island - Caloundra - Jumpinpin/ Broadwater and Moreton Island. Go as you please trips are also incorporated into our fishing calendar.
The Moreton trips are very popular with generally over 40 members attending. The other trips are also well patronised but there is always room for more.
Social events are also incorporated into our calendar [Young Guns V Old Guard], annual presentation of trophies, Christmas tree and our breakup trip on Moreton in November which is a very popular trip.
To join the club you must fish 3 trips as a visitor to enable you to be graded. A joining fee of $40.00 is charged at the commencement of your membership which covers affiliation and insurance fees. A yearly membership fee of $120.00 [$100.00 if paid before 30th June] is payable each year. Junior membership is $10.00 per year but they are not required to fish the 3 trips.
RCAA does not charge a trip fee for each trip except for our Moreton trips. A fee of $150.00 per vehicle is payable on these trips. This covers your barge fee and accommodation while on the trip. You are liable for your own food and drinks and fishing requirements [bait]. The breakup trip is slightly dearer to help cover our costs in conducting this popular event
The club participates in all South Queensland , Queensland and Australian Amateur fishing events. The club pays for your entry into these events. Members are encouraged to fish these competitions. RCAA has a proud record when attending these events.
RCAA is also fortunate in owning 3 units on Moreton Island which are available to our members and the general public for rent. Members have the benefit of booking 12 months in advance whereas the public can only book 6 months ahead. Further details can be found on Club House page.

In 1972 five members of the Scarborough fishing club decided to break away and form a new club, Redcliffe City Amateur Anglers. These founding members were Mr. Barry Ferguson, Mr. Cyril Lowman, Mr. Brain Littlerick, Mr. Bill Bryan and Mr. Laurie Allan.
The first meeting was at Mr. Brain Littlerick's house where they decided that as the Scarborough club was based at Scarborough Hotel, R.C.A.A should be based at the Ambassador Hotel in the heart of Redcliffe.
With these five founding members now drinking with the local patrons in the back bar at the Ambassador Hotel the numbers swelled to 30 members within a month. The second meeting was delayed because Mr Mal Ferguson had broken away from the independent amateur club in Townsville and was bringing his club constitution to form a committee. The publican, Mr Wally Coffery, of the Ambassador Hotel put on free beers for the first meeting which went late into the night. Mr. Greg Gallagher who worked at the Ambassador Hotel was elected to first president of R.C.A.A.
The club first started raffling fish trays at the Ambassador Hotel to raise funds for the club. We proceeded to raffle meat trays on a Friday night from 5-6pm and Saturdays at 12-1pm until after the covid pandemic when it became obvious that continuing with the raffles was not financially feasible.
Within a year of being formed the club had gone from five members to over fifty including junior competitors.
It was decided to field A, B & C grade teams in SQAFCA interclub competitions and to pick SQAFCA competitions as club trips. The club has a proud history competing in the SQAFCA competitions with many of our members winning both individual and teams trophies over a number of years
In 1976, Mr. Barry Ferguson managed to acquire a block of land at Bulwer from the Zillmere fishing club with a bit of help from Mr. Kevin Saddler of the Lands department, who was a member of the Virginia-Nundah Fishing club, for $1.00 stamp duty. The management committee then formed a building committee which consisted of: Mr. Bluey Bowman, Mr. Keith Duncan, Mr. Barry Cork, Mr. Sam Russo and Mr. Barry Ferguson.
These men did the most amazing thing, you see, in 1976 there was no barge so they all travelled across in 15 foot boats with axes and chainsaws and cleared the land by hand. Then they travelled across with bags of cement, borrowed Mr. Claude Robinson's truck on the Island and obtained gravel from north light and the slab was down. The besser bricks went across on Mr. Claude Robinsons cut down trawler "The Bambie" and the walls were completed.
Eventually after many years the club house was completed and today it is the largest and the best fishing club house on the island.
Redcliffe City Amateur Anglers has gone from strength to strength in the last fifty years and will always be one of the strongest clubs in South-East Queensland.
